I was really proud to be one of the character leads (alongside Alex Stratulat) on the Love, Death and Robots episode 'The Screaming of the Tyrannosaur', directed by Tim Miller.

I had a hand in a lot of the character assets across the show, but Mei was my focus early on. She was designed through a series of concept sculpts that I did to define not only her character but also the style of the human characters in the show. In this process I worked closely with the Art Director Jake Gumbleton, CG Supervisor Paul Rowley, the Surfacing Lead Piotr Orlinski and the Groom Lead Hamish Mitchel to get early renders out of various iterations of Mei and how she would work in modelling with surfacing and groom applied, so that we could send the client renders that looked almost like a finished character early on. Once the style was set, we were then able to refine Mei, and also roll the style out to other characters in the show.

So, whilst Mei isn't the most challenging sculpt from a technical point of view, she is the result of a great team coming together to find the character, responding to internal and client feedback as we went. I'm proud of her for this reason - we started with very little direction and I think in the final result she's a great looking character. Piotr and Hamish did incredible work on the surfacing and groom respectively, and Nils Allely brought his considerable A game to the blendshapes.

As with every project like this, it was a huge team effort across the show in all departments. I'm proud of what we achieved at Axis, and i want to congratulate all of my former colleagues for their outstanding work on this show. Also, thanks to Blur for finishing the project when Axis ceased trading.
